Accessible Housing for All
Carlisle is a community that cares. Right now, many of our neighbors are struggling.
Homelessness in Cumberland County has increased by more than 34 percent. This sharp rise reflects a growing crisis affecting families, veterans, and seniors. We are also facing the “Gray Wave,” a projected tripling of senior homelessness by 2030. Many older adults in our region are experiencing housing instability for the first time.
Even among working families, financial strain is widespread. More than 52 percent of Carlisle households fall below the ALICE threshold. These are residents who are employed but still unable to afford essentials like housing, childcare, and transportation. Countywide, a quarter of households are in the same position.
Housing costs continue to rise, vacancy rates remain low, and affordable rentals are increasingly hard to find. Many residents are being priced out of the community they call home.
My Commitment
As Mayor, I’ll launch a Community Working Group and Task Force focused on homelessness and housing affordability. If reelected, I will:
-
Expand affordable housing options through smart zoning and development policies
-
Strengthen partnerships with nonprofits, housing advocates, and state agencies
-
Prioritize support for seniors, veterans, and ALICE families and individuals
-
Champion transparency and community engagement in housing decisions
Together, we can build a Carlisle where everyone has a place to call home.
