Safer Streets for Carlisle
As Mayor of Carlisle, I’ve made it a priority to ensure our streets are not only safer but also better maintained for everyone who lives, works, and travels through our community. I’m proud to report that our efforts are already bearing fruit — and there’s more to come.
Safer Streets for All
Carlisle is taking bold steps to improve traffic safety and protect pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers alike:
-
We will complete Carlisle's first Active Transportation Plan during my next term.
-
Street Improvement Projects: Our Public Works team has been hard at work maintaining and upgrading over 58 miles of borough roads. This includes crack sealing, pothole repairs, and advanced resurfacing techniques like ultra-thin bonded wearing courses (UTBWC) to extend road life.
-
“Slow Down” Campaign: We launched a public awareness initiative to combat speeding and reckless driving. This includes increased police presence in high-risk areas, updated signage, and community outreach to promote safer habits.
-
Distracted Driving Prevention: We're addressing one of the leading causes of accidents with education campaigns and signage improvements to keep drivers focused on the road.
These efforts are making Carlisle safer for pedestrians, especially in areas with high foot traffic and near schools, parks, and downtown businesses.
Joint Infrastructure Initiative Supporting Economic Growth
Thanks to strong advocacy and collaboration with PennDOT, Carlisle is seeing significant investment in our infrastructure:
-
Carlisle Connectivity Project: This joint initiative is transforming key corridors like Route 11, Route 34, and Fairground Avenue. Through my direct work, we successfully closed a $2.3 million budget gap caused by inflation — without placing any additional burden on Carlisle taxpayers. It includes:
-
Streetscape upgrades
-
Drainage improvements
-
A new roundabout at the five-legged intersection of Hanover Street, Penn Street, and Fairground Avenue
-
Realignment and traffic signal installation at the Route 11/34 intersection
-
These improvements are about more than smoother roads. They’re about connecting our neighborhoods, easing congestion, and laying the groundwork for economic development. Better infrastructure means better access for local businesses, more attractive conditions for investment, and a stronger foundation for Carlisle’s future.
The realignment at the Route 11/34 intersection also makes the at-grade railroad crossing tremendously safer, addressing a long-standing safety concern for drivers and pedestrians alike.
That’s responsible leadership delivering real results.
And thanks to our persistent advocacy, repaving of Hanover and High Street is finally on its way, addressing long-standing concerns and improving two of our most vital thoroughfares.
My Commitment
As your Mayor, I will continue to:
-
Advocate for state and federal funding to improve Carlisle’s infrastructure
-
Prioritize safety in every street project
-
Engage residents in shaping traffic and transportation policies that reflect our community’s needs
-
Promote infrastructure as a catalyst for economic opportunity and growth
-
Ensure our streets are safe and accessible for pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers alike
Together, we’re building a Carlisle that’s safer, stronger, and ready for the future.
